My favourite - a Turkish breakfast. Tasty, nutritious and light.

It’s an unfortunate fact that many people eat a poor quality Breakfast or skip it entirely.

This is a bad idea, because the purpose of breakfast is to get a good energy intake, so you can enjoy a High Energy day. It’s no mistake that the word means what it says – break the fast. Skipping Breakfast usually means poor energy around 3pm and making poor food choices to fill the energy hole.

If you aren’t hungry in the morning, try some lemon juice in water to get your digestion moving and some fruit later. As you get used to having something in the morning, try small portions of the breakfast suggestions below.

Congratulations to those of you who eat breakfast (good on you!) but if you’re in a rut, try these ideas:

  • ½ cup untoasted muesli with no added sugar, ½ cup milk and 1 kiwi fruit
  • 130g serve baked beans with one cup steamed English spinach and one slice toasted grain bread
  • one slice grain bread toasted with one tsp peanut butter, one cup fruit salad and three tbs low-fat natural yoghurt sweetened with one tsp honey
  • one poached egg on one slice of grain bread with one tsp butter, 1 kiwifruit or small apple
  • ½ cup untoasted muesli, ½ cup water soaked overnight. In the morning add ½ cup of natural yoghurt and ½ cup grated pear/apple.
  • one boiled egg, slices of cucumber, tomato, feta and olives, served with 1/2 a fresh Pita bread plus 1/4 cup of natural yoghurt and a couple of apricots and dates.

All suggestions are approx. 400 calories (kcal), so they’re nice and light but with good levels of fibre, protein, carbs and good fats to keep you energised until lunch time. Bon Appetit!
